Setting up the Copy Center printers in OSX


These instructions are for MAC OS X.

Download and installing papercut software

  1. If you are using Wi-Fi, make sure to install and connect using WiscVPN, instructions can be found here
  2. Hit command(clover)-k key in finder
  3. Type in smb://
  4. Connect as a guest user and select the shared drive pcclient
  5. If you have the software for the old server installed, go into the Uninstallers folder and drag the mac uninstaller to your desktop and run it. Otherwise, skip this step.
  6. Navigate to the folder named mac and double click on client-local-install
  7. Select yes when asked to install into the Applications folder
  8. You can log into the papercut client with your chemistry email username and password
  9. If you're running OS X Yosemite, open the terminal program and type the following lines hitting enter in between:
    1. sudo sh -c 'echo "Sandboxing Relaxed" >> /etc/cups/cups-files.conf'
    2. sudo launchctl stop org.cups.cupsd

Configure your machine to start papercut on boot

  1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  2. Select Users & Groups.
  3. Select your login account.
  4. Click the Login Items tab.
  5. Click the + button and browse and locate the PCClient application in the Applications folder0.

Setting up print queues

  1. Go to Apple pull down on top left corner
  2. Choose system preferences
  3. Choose Print & Scanners
  4. Click + to add a printer
  5. Select IP under the protocol drop down menu
  6. Type in the Address box.
  7. Switch the Protocol to Internet Printing Protocol - IPP
  8. In Queue window, type in one of the following
    • printers/pc-5550 for the HP Color Laserjet 5550 in the copy center (normal paper)
    • printers/pc-5550-11x17 for the HP Color Laserjet 5550 in the copy center (11x17 paper)
    • printers/pc-5550-8x14 for the HP Color Laserjet 5550 in the copy center (8.5x14 paper)
    • printers/pc-m651dn for the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M651 in the copy center
    • printers/pc-p400-TAL for the Left TA Office printer
    • printers/pc-p400-TAR for the right TA Office printer
  9. Under Name select a name you would like to use to describe this queue
  10. Under Location add in the location of the printer.
  11. Under Print using choose Select a driver to use ... and select the Generic PCL driver
